Coaching

As a club we are delighted to be able to provide coaching to those members that would like the opportunity to improve their game, increase their enjoyment of the sport of badminton and reduce their risk of injury. Our coach, Pete Crawshaw is a UKCC level 3 coach and is affiliated to Badminton England.

As a coaching club, the expectation is that all members participate in coaching, especially beginners. This ensures all participants play safely and there is enjoyment for all members.

Hi everyone,

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Pete Crawshaw your badminton coach, the majority of club members know me simply as COACH. I’m honoured to be your appointed coach and have been here at PBC since 2022.

I’ve been involved in badminton for 50 years both as a player, ambassador and coach. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with players of different ages and skill levels, from beginners learning the basics to advanced players preparing for tournaments. My passion is helping players improve their technique, build confidence, and enjoy the game even more.

Whether your goal is to improve fitness, sharpen your skills, or compete at a higher level, I’m here to support your development.

Please feel free to come and introduce yourself before or after sessions — I’d love to get to know you and understand your personal goals and ambitions in badminton.

I’m really looking forward to working with you all and being part of this club community!

Let’s get started!

The club heavily subsidises the cost, but there will be a small charge to ensure we are able to offer coaching on a regular basis.

Coaching will cost £5 per month (by direct debit) for any member that would like more than adhoc coaching. Coaching is predominantly aimed at league players but there are spaces available for non league members. Please speak to Gary (club chairman) in the first instance, if interested.

Coaching includes:

•    Court safety, including where not to stand
•    Fitness/conditioning
•    Tactics including defensive and attacking play
•    Footwork
•    Badminton racket grips (forehand, backhand and bevel grip)
•    Positional play (Fore court, mid court, rear court)
•    Technical aspects including playing forehand, backhand and serving
•    Different shots and shot selection
•    Game tactics for singles, level doubles and mixed doubles
•    Coaching for league players

If anyone has a question or a specific area, they would like coaching on, please feel free to speak to a member of the committee.
